"The Coffelt Case: A Case Study of the Coffelt-Lamoreaux Public Housing Redevelopment HIA"

This study details the Health Impact Assessment (HIA) carried out for the redevelopment the 296 units Coffelt-Lamoreaux Public Housing site and surrounding area in Phoenix.

Although it was done after initial plans were createdand on a relatively low budgetthe HIA has had a notable impact on the redevelopment.

This 13-page case study explains the process, including the data collected and the deep involvement of residents, as well as the report recommendations, which include:

  • Access to healthy food
  • Access to physical activity
  • Healthy and safe housing
  • Social cohesion and community well-being

The paper ends with lessons learned from the Coffelt–Lamoreaux HIA.
