Opportunity Zones (Recorded Webinar)

In the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017, Congress created Opportunity Zones, a new federal government community development program designed to attract private capital to under-resourced neighborhoods. Details of this program are still coming together and can be complicated. In this June 19, 2018 webinar, Citi Community Capital convened panelists to describe what Opportunity Zones are, how they work and what the tax benefits can be.

Panelists Lisa Brill, Shearman and Sterling; John Heppolette, Citi Community Capital; Jeffrey Jaeger, Standard Communities; and Michael Novogradac, Novogradac & Company walked participants through definitions and current status of the program and described how investments can qualify for tax deferral, reduction or elimination. They showed how the program applies to affordable multifamily investments and took audience questions about the program.
