Exploring Gentrification
Published: December 15, 2016
The latest issue of Cityscape, a publication of HUD’s Office of Policy Development & Research, takes a look at gentrification from several different angles. Articles explore the causes of gentrification in recent years, as well as the impacts on family financial health, neighborhood small businesses and residents of nearby public housing.
Of practical interest is an article by Jeffrey Lubell of Abt Associates, Preserving and Expanding Affordability in Neighborhoods Experiencing Rising Rents and Property Values. Lubell describes several policy tools that local governments can use to preserve and expand affordable housing opportunities in such neighborhoods.
